The members of this Section are very keen and during the year have put in lot of hard work. In November the Section had 3 days in Camp in the New Territories when some useful field work was put in Lance Corpl. Lloyd, 4th. K. 3. L. I. acted as Instructor until his departure from the Colony in March last. Sergt. Mitchelmore (in charge) has qualified as an Assistant Instructor. Lance Sergt. Crawford holde Naval Signalling "ertificate and Corpl. W. Hill (now on leave) let. Clase Army Certificate, 2 members have recently qualified as lat. Class Signallers and 2 as Second Class. The remainder will shortly be examined by the Command Bignalling Officer.
In addition to the above qualifications seven members hold lst. Class Semaphore Flag Certificates and three second Class. Signallers attended at all field firing practices and also all Field Operations and exercises.
XII Mounted Section
During the year a Mounted Section was formed. This Section now consists of 1 Officer (2nd. Lieut. Moxon) 1 Sergeant 1 Corporal and 21 Privates 9 of the latter being members of the H.K.V.C. Prade Parades have usually been held twice weekly under the instruction of Staff Sergeant Talbot and latterly Master Gummer Pinder. Rides have taken place both on the Island and mainland with a view of the men getting a knowledge of the country. The Section was detailed for patrol work on the mainland on the 15th. December on mobilization of the regular forces. The Section was quartered at Fanling in the New Territories from the 17th.
to the 25th March 1917 at the residence of Mr. P. W. Goldring kindly lent by him for the occasion. Food &c. being provided by an anonymous donor. Most of the members were unable to attend for the whoël period but a considerable amount of useful work was done during the week ends in patrolling and gaining a know- ledge of the country. A separate report regarding this has already been forwarded to the General Officer Commanding.
